Who We are...

It was already turning cold when a group of Christians decided they would not postpone it any longer. They gathered together in a house with a pastor preaching from the doorway on December 8, 1857 for the first service of what would become the congregation of St. James. A short time later, the other Lutheran church on the other side of town, St. John, would dissolve. The majority joined our church and we decided to become St. John and St. James Evangelical Church. Over 165 years later, that's still who we are: St. John-St. James. Much has changed over that time, but one thing that has remained constant: the Word of the Lord that endures forever.

What We Believe and Teach

At St. John-St. James (SJSJ) we believe that the Bible is God’s Word and our most powerful tool. The purpose of that tool and, therefore, our purpose? To save souls! And the only the way to do that is to share the Good News of God’s Word. It’s that Good News of Jesus’ forgiveness full and free that compels us to live it and share it. Our desire is to nurture the faith of our brothers and sisters in Jesus and to reach out with this Good News to others. We would love to share it especially with you! Join us for a Sunday service. Stop in and speak with one of our pastors. We would love to get to know you!
